Records 1836-1854, from Daniel Shattuck's estate papers. (Shattuck's estate was administered by Concord lawyer Nathan Brooks.) Records consist primarily of bills, accounts, and receipts; also include correspondence and agreement.

Biographical or Historical Data
Real estate development company in Concord, Mass. Incorporated in 1828, the company had been conducting business since 1826, if not earlier. Incorporators included Nehemiah Ball, John Keyes, Ephraim Merriam, Abel Moore, and Daniel Shattuck (who served as Treasurer). Starting out with $20,000 capital, the company bought up land in the vicinity of the mill dam in the center of Concord, drained the millpond, widened the road, tore down old and constructed new store buildings, collected rent from storekeepers, and sold lots upon which individuals could put up their own buildings. (cont.) construction of the Concord Bank and Middlesex Mutual Fire Insurance Company building (1832) was one significant result of the Mill Dam Co.'s activity in Concord's business district.
